The Sixth: A Modern Retelling of Faust

When the Mausoleum opened, the world believed monsters had escaped. They were wrong. Some monsters don't crawl from ancient tombs. Some earn your trust.

Jeremiah Hale is a good man. At least, Gretchen Miller believes he is.

Quiet, thoughtful, and almost painfully kind, Jeremiah is the newest face at West Virginia University. He remembers how Gretchen takes her coffee. He listens when she speaks. And beneath all his awkward hesitation is a man she finds herself falling for faster than she ever expected.

There's only one problem.

Jeremiah doesn't believe he's worthy of her.

Then, on a rain-soaked night in Morgantown, he encounters a beautiful stranger beside an ancient mausoleum. His name is Mephistopheles, and he offers Jeremiah everything he believes he lacks.

Confidence. Influence. Success. Strength.

The power to become the man Jeremiah believes Gretchen deserves.

The price?

Once a month. On the sixth day. Before midnight. A life.

Jeremiah can refuse.

Instead, he says yes.

And the terrifying thing is... it works.

As Jeremiah becomes everything he ever wanted to be, Gretchen falls deeper in love. Their future begins to take shape. And every sixth day, somewhere in the darkness, another debt comes due.

But bargains with the Devil were never meant to make men better.

They only reveal what was already there.

Set against the mountains, rain-soaked streets, and old stone of West Virginia, The Sixth is a modern Appalachian reimagining of the Faust legend, a tale of love, loneliness, damnation, and the terrible things people convince themselves are necessary to become worthy of being loved.

Some bargains never end. Some debts demand everything.

The Sixth: A Modern Retelling of Faust is a standalone entry in the Mausoleum of Monsters anthology series.
