Six Months In The Gold Mines is a book written by Edward Gould Buffum, detailing his experiences during his three-year residence in Upper and Lower California from 1847 to 1849. The book primarily focuses on the six months that Buffum spent in the gold mines of California, where he worked as a miner and prospector. Throughout the book, Buffum discusses the challenges and dangers that he faced while working in the mines, including harsh weather conditions, dangerous mining techniques, and encounters with hostile Native American tribes. He also provides insight into the daily life and culture of the miners, including their social customs, living conditions, and economic struggles. In addition to his experiences in the gold mines, Buffum also offers a broader perspective on the historical and political context of California during this time period, including the Mexican-American War and the California Gold Rush. He provides detailed accounts of the social and economic changes that occurred in California as a result of these events, and offers his own observations and opinions on the impact of these changes on the region.Overall, Six Months In The Gold Mines is a fascinating and informative account of life in California during the mid-19th century, offering a unique perspective on the experiences of the miners and the broader historical context of the era. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
