The Six Enneads is a collection of works by the philosopher Plotinus, who lived in the 3rd century CE. The book consists of six volumes, each containing nine treatises or Enneads on various philosophical topics. The first Ennead discusses the nature of the One, which Plotinus identifies as the ultimate source of all existence. The second Ennead examines the relationship between the One and the intellect, while the third Ennead explores the nature of the soul and its relationship to the physical world. The fourth Ennead delves into the question of evil and how it can exist in a world created by a benevolent deity. The fifth Ennead focuses on the relationship between the individual soul and the universal soul, while the sixth Ennead addresses the topic of mystical union with the divine. Throughout the book, Plotinus draws on the ideas of Plato and Aristotle, as well as the teachings of various religious and philosophical traditions. He argues that the ultimate goal of human existence is to transcend the limitations of the physical world and achieve union with the divine. The Six Enneads is considered one of the most important works of ancient philosophy, and has had a profound influence on later thinkers in both the East and West. Its ideas continue to be studied and debated by scholars and philosophers today. But does not Likeness by way of Virtue imply Likeness to some being that has Virtue? To what Divine Being, then, would our Likeness be? To the Being- must we not think?- in Which, above all, such excellence seems to inhere, that is to the Soul of the Kosmos and to the Principle ruling within it, the Principle endowed with a wisdom most wonderful. What could be more fitting than that we, living in this world, should become Like to its ruler? This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
