Forty Years In The Wilderness Of Pills And Powders is a book written by William Andrus Alcott, an aged physician who reflects on his experiences of practicing medicine for forty years. The book is a collection of cogitations and confessions in which Alcott shares his thoughts on the medical profession, the use of drugs, and his own personal journey as a physician.Alcott begins by discussing the state of medicine in the early 19th century, when he first began practicing. He reflects on the widespread use of harsh drugs and the lack of understanding of the human body and its natural healing processes. He then goes on to discuss his own journey as a physician, including his early struggles and the lessons he learned along the way.Throughout the book, Alcott shares his thoughts on various medical topics, including the use of drugs, the importance of diet and exercise, and the role of the physician in promoting overall health and well-being. He also reflects on the ethical dilemmas faced by physicians, such as the conflict between treating patients and making a profit.Overall, Forty Years In The Wilderness Of Pills And Powders is a thought-provoking and insightful book that offers a unique perspective on the medical profession and the challenges faced by physicians. It is a valuable resource for anyone interested in the history of medicine or the current state of healthcare. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
