Studied medicine at the College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City for three years after graduation, and March 1, 1877, received the degree of M.D.; from Oct. 1,1877, to April 1, 1879, was on the house staff of Charity Hospital, Blackwell's Island, N. Y., and received a diploma for this service; in May, 1879, passed the examinations before the Army Board for the position of assistant surgeon, and was commissioned by the President of the United States, Feb. 17, 1880, with the rank of first lieutenant of cavalry; served from June 3, 1879, to Oct. 8, 1879, as assistant to post surgeon at Fort Hamilton, New York Harbor, and since Novem ber, 1879, has been post surgeon at Fort Stanton, New Mexico, in the Department of the Missouri. WILLIAM ICHABOD NICHOLS. From August, 1874, to December, 1876, was preceptor of Derby Academy in Hingham, Mass.; for the next few months resided in Cambridge, and had a private pupil in his charge; in the fall of 1877 entered the Harvard Divinity School; after completing two years in the regular course, was enrolled as a special student for the third year, and joined also the Senior Class at Andover Theological Seminary, where he remained until March, 1880; then took up the regular third year's work at the Harvard Divinity School, and expects to graduate this summer; has contributed several articles to the Christian Register, published in Boston.
