The Second Hundred Years War, 1689-1815 provides a comprehensive historical analysis of the long-standing geopolitical struggle between Great Britain and France. Covering the period from the accession of William III to the final defeat of Napoleon at Waterloo, this work examines the series of military conflicts and diplomatic maneuvers that defined European and global history for over a century. Arthur H. Buffinton explores how this rivalry shaped the modern world, focusing on the competition for colonial supremacy, maritime dominance, and continental influence.
The narrative traces the evolution of international relations through key events such as the War of the Spanish Succession, the Seven Years' War, and the French Revolutionary Wars. By synthesizing the political, economic, and military factors at play, the author offers a clear perspective on the strategic goals of the two great powers. This study is essential for understanding the foundations of the British Empire and the shifting balance of power in Europe during the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. It serves as a valuable resource for anyone interested in the complexities of imperial conflict and the historical roots of modern diplomacy.
