作者具有詩人、鑒賞家、散文家的多重身份，然在對待大自然這一點上，無論他的那一種文體，都深埋這天籟潛在的鳴響。
人屬時間，也屬空間。人其實和植物是一樣，頗受地理環境的影響，而對萬籟的感受頗形差異，這種差異見出深淺來。《水經注，江水注》中，認為山清水秀之地，每每生長俊彥、人中之龍，馮椿先生對代南方山水家園，正和水經注的論斷相契合。
在作者數十年的人生經歷中，密佈多少風雪夜歸的心頭滋味呢？所以他的文章，是相當富有情緒哲學的意味。悲其志，未嘗不垂涕想見其為人。當中，還是頗有賈長沙一路的心曲。就文法文風而言，馮兄的文章，不拘格套，非從胸臆流出，不肯下筆。就像是現代的竟陵派。以悲世之意多，故起筆常在高處，寓結實於空靈，語疏而意密，乃尚智之文。其迂回處如長亭折柳送客，慷慨處如荊卿之辭燕丹。至於行文，則簡易、跳蕩、奇突，有斷續之妙，而中流自在，文心自在，別開生面。陳法窠臼，在他那裡沒有溫床。《歸來的緣》就是家園山水田園的寫真，也是哲學情緒的抒發，言外語意還有千重。至於像敘寫紅樹林、霸王嶺等風物，落筆者自多，而在馮兄的文章中，每一筆觸裡面，卻咀嚼出悠遠的滋味來。
