The First Blast of the Trumpet is a book written by John Knox, a Scottish Protestant reformer, in 1558. The book is a call to arms for Protestant rulers to overthrow Catholic monarchs and establish Protestant rule in their place. Knox argues that women should not be permitted to rule, citing biblical examples, and calls out specific Catholic monarchs, including Mary Tudor, the Queen of England at the time. The book caused controversy and was banned in England and Scotland. It is considered a significant work in the history of the Protestant Reformation and the development of political theory. And as concerning the danger which may hereof ensue, I am not altogether so brutish and insensible, but that I have laid my account, what the finishing of the work may cost me for my own part. First, I am not ignorant how difficult and dangerous it is to speak against a common error, especially when the ambitious minds of men and women are called to the obedience of God's simple commandment. For to the most part of men, whatsoever antiquity has received appears lawful and godly. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
