After an inspirational speech and a night of free flowing beer, Alfred Ouellette signs a declaration, I, Alfred Ouellette... hereby engage and agree to serve in the Canadian Over-Seas Expeditionary Force...during the war now existing between Great Britain and Germany...until legally discharged. Life as Alfred knew it was about to change. Based on a true story, The 11th Hour of the 11th Day follows Alfred as he encounters many historical events and people as he tries to survive the horrors of war. But while he is at war, life dramatically changes for his family left at home. With a 1914 population of only 7.2 million, Canada contributed 619,636 men and women to the Great War. When the guns fell silent on Nov. 11, 1918, nearly one in ten of those Canadians had died in battle and 173,000 returned home wounded. Now, as the Centennial of World War I approaches, we must not forget the spirit and sacrifices of those Canadians who secured our freedom.
