Checked, not repeated. Every operational detail was verified against primary sources: the Appalachian Trail Conservancy, the National Park Service, Baxter State Park, Leave No Trace, the National Weather Service and the Wilderness Medical Society. Several widely repeated pieces of trail wisdom did not survive that process, and are not in this book.
Whether you leave Springer in March, flip-flop from Harpers Ferry in April, or walk south from Katahdin in June, the mistakes are the same. Reading about them costs an evening. Making them can cost the hike.
