I used to work in the so-called defense industry (more accurately, the war industry). The more I realized that my job supported wars that do not make the country safer, the more I wanted to quit.

In 2014, I finally did. I started my journey to a more meaningful life already upset about so many seemingly endless problems -- pollution, corruption, wars based on lies, a few rich and a lot of poor, racism, sexism, and more. I had no idea how to live without these troubles, but I wanted to try.

I wanted to live in a culture with trustworthy leaders, no rich and poor, an emphasis on sharing rather than profiting, and deep connection with the Earth. Is it even possible for humans to live this way?

If healthy cultures exist, and it really is possible to live without corruption, discrimination, and all the other troubles, how do people do it? And what lessons could help the rest of us live in healthy cultures again?

Brilliant... beautiful... great storytelling. -- CSM

This is a must-read landmark book. -- Cindy Spitzer

I was surprised again and again by what I gained from reading this well-written, eye-opening, and inspirational book. This is a stunning book that everyone should read and take to heart. -- Phil Terbush
