What if one of Christianity's most repeated teachings about the anointing rests on a verse that never meant what we were told it meant?
The anointing breaks the yoke.
For generations, that sentence has been preached as a spiritual law. Around it has grown an entire vocabulary of greater levels, fresh anointings, transferred mantles, impartations, special carriers and the pursuit of more.
But what if Scripture tells a different-and far better-story?
In One Anointing, Alain Lea returns to the Hebrew and Greek texts, the baptism of Christ at the Jordan, the apostolic witness, and the writings of the earliest teachers of the
Church to ask one foundational question:
What is the anointing?
The answer changes everything. In Christ-the Anointed One-the Spirit has been given decisively, not as a prize for the spiritually elite but as the abiding gift shared by those united to him.
Drawing from Scripture, Hebrew and Greek word studies, and witnesses including Irenaeus, Athanasius, Cyril of Jerusalem, Gregory of Nazianzus, Gregory of Nyssa, Augustine and Cyril of Alexandria, One Anointing uncovers a doctrine that is older than the modern controversy and more liberating than the spiritual economy built around it.
This is not a case for a powerless Christianity. And it is not an argument that the Holy Spirit no longer heals, speaks or acts.
It is something much more radical:
a recovery of the Holy Spirit as Person rather than commodity.
For pastors, charismatic and Pentecostal believers, theology students, readers of the Church Fathers, and Christians who have ever wondered whether they need more anointing, this book offers an invitation to stop chasing what God has already given in his Son.
