In Wavelength, we enter local landscapes and faraway places that are joyful, mesmerizing, and humorous. We wander through urban life encounters with friends, lovers, strangers. Rucks describes all of these events through down to earth sensory and sensuous descriptions and stunning metaphors, as in her poem "Interval": "I learn to live / inside crevices of bark / like and insect." So many poems to love here. So many to fal into again and again. —Roseann Lloyd, author of The Boy who Slept Under the Stars

Carol Rucks graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point, where she studied Literature and Creative Writing with David Steingass and Dave Engel. She also studied with Roseann Lloyd several times in Guatemal, as part of Artworks in Guatemala, and has taken many classes at the Loft Literary Center. She has worked mainly in libraries, especially at the Art/Music/Literature reference desk at the Minneapolis Central Library. Her poems have appeared in "Abraxas," "West Branch," "Colere," "Earth's Daughters," Poetry Quarterly," and elsewhere. She is the author of the poetry collection Evidence of Rain, published by Nodin Press, and lives in Minneapolis with her husband Mark McHugh.

In The Quickening Light, you find reverence and meditation, also hunger and hard truth. Blumenson’s subjects range from the natural world to solitude to family, to the challenges of war and loss and the shiftings of the body. All this explored with a fine eye for both praise and mourning, and a quest to open up the hidden, to “honor the empty spaces like wolves that keep a place in the circle for those who are gone.” She tells it like it is, shoots us to the stars and delivers a heart that enlarges our world. —Diane Jarvenpa, The Way She Told Her Story

June Blumenson, author of A Scythe of Moon (2020), lives in Minneapolis, curates a poetry reading series, and facilitates poetry workshops. She is widely published in journals including Boston Literary Magazine, San Pedro River Review, and The French Literary Review. Her awards include Comstock Literary Review Award, Journal of Arizona State Poetry Society, The Poet’s Billow Atlantis Award, Literal Latte Award, The Loft/Minneapolis Institute of Art Sacred Shorts Writing Contest Award, and Red Wing Arts 21st Annual Poet Artist Collaboration. She was a finalist for Nimrod’s Pablo Neruda Prize for Poetry. When asked why she writes, she likes to quote Kurt Vonnegut, “I write so that I can edit myself into some semblance of intelligence.”
