Ed Bok Lee is the author of three books of poetry and prose, Real Karaoke People, Whorled, and Mitochondrial Night, as well as numerous short stories, plays, and essays. Lee’s work has been translated into French, Italian, Spanish, Korean, and Chinese. Other honors include an American Book Award, an Asian American Literary Award (Members’ Choice Award), a Minnesota Book Award, a PEN/Open Book Award, and various grants and fellowships. As a literary translator and recipient of the 49th Modern Korean Literature Translation Grand Prize in Poetry, his work has ranged from the prose of science fiction writer, Anatoli Kim (Kazakhstan) to Smiling in an Old Photograph: Poems by Kim Ki-taek (OHM Editions) and Hail, Che Guevara! by Park Jeong Dae (Black Ocean, forthcoming). Lee attended kindergarten in Seoul, South Korea, studied Slavic (and Central Asian) Languages and Literatures at the Minnesota, Indiana, and Berkeley, and holds an MFA from Brown University. He is an Associate Professor in Fine Arts at Metropolitan State University.

Margaret Hasse, poet, is author of Summoned and six other books of poetry and co-editor of the anthology, Rocked by the Waters’ poems of motherhood. A collection of her new and selected poems will be released in 2024. Margaret’s work has received fellowships from National Endowment for the Arts, McKnight Foundation, Jerome Foundation, and Minnesota State Arts Board. According to poet Naomi Shibab Nye, Margaret has “a potent, clear-cut, honest voice . . .It moved me very much with its genuine lyrical passion. All heart and soul and care. I felt deeply and genuinely joyous after reading it.”

Q: Do I need to register?

A: Please do if at all possible! Use the registration button above. Registering ahead of time helps us with scheduling, book ordering, and other decisions that are made several weeks prior to the event. The more info we have ahead of time, the better.

With a registered list, we can also easily and directly communicate event updates such as postponements or cancellations.

If you are unable to sign up online, please call or visit the bookstore and register with a bookseller.

Walk-ins are always welcome, but seating decisions are made based on registered attendance and seating priority is given to registered attendees first.

Q: Are in store events free?

A: Yes, Magers & Quinn events are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted.

Q: Are masks required?

A: Masks are not required to browse in the store or at most events. Some events may come with a request for masking for the health and safety of the author. If so it will be noted here whenever possible.
