Event Requests
We are currently booking Winter 2027 events and beyond. We are in the process of finalizing our events calendar through the end of 2026, and cannot accommodate any further requests for summer or fall events.
Please note that our events program focuses mainly on books for adult readers, whether fiction, nonfiction, or poetry. In certain circumstances we will host an event for a young adult title, but it is uncommon. We cannot accommodate events for picture books or middle grade books. We strongly encourage you to reach out to one of the wonderful bookstores in town that focus on children's literature.
Our consignment program, which allows us to carry books not available from traditional publishers or distributors, is limited to titles related to upcoming events.
Thank you for your interest in having an event at Magers & Quinn! Our bookstore has been hosting and facilitating author events for over 20 years and we are passionate about bringing literary events of all kinds into our community.
We host a mix of local and national authors working in all genres, and we welcome events of all sizes, from intimate gatherings in our store to ticketed events with an off-site partner.
If you are a publisher, publicist, or author seeking an event for an author/book tour, email events@magersandquinn.com. Please make sure your email includes the information listed below:
- Title, author, ISBN, and publication date of book.
- Desired time frame for event date and why.
Examples: Are you specifically looking for an event on publication day? Will the author be traveling through Minnesota at a certain date? Are you looking for a stop in between Chicago and Denver, some time in early September? - Who is publishing/distributing the book? (For books not traditionally published or distributed, we may work with the author to sell on a consignment basis - see further note on consignment below.)
- Brief book description/press release
- Why are you seeking an event in Minneapolis - Local connections? Friends and family? Planned media?
- What has drawn you to Magers & Quinn specifically?
- How many people do you expect to attend as a result of the publisher/author’s own marketing?
- How will the author/publisher market this event?
When contacting Magers & Quinn with an event request, thank you for your awareness of the following:
- Reach out as early as possible: we prefer to schedule events at least 3-4 months ahead. Please note that we are currently booking out even further than usual, and 5-6 months notice may be required to pitch your desired dates.
- In general, preference is given to recently published books - meaning recently published at the time of the event. If a book is publishing in September, we would prefer to have the event as close to its publication date as possible. To secure a September event, we recommend reaching out at least 4 months ahead.
- Our events schedule is created based on a variety of factors and we cannot accommodate every request.
- We receive a very large volume of requests, and try to respond to as many as possible. Please allow up to 4 weeks for a response. If after this time you have not heard back from us, do follow up. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding!
- Our preferred method of communication is email. Our events team has a varied schedule and handles a variety of responsibilties around the store, so we are not always available for phone calls.
- For locally-based folks: keep in mind that our events team is not available for drop-in meetings or pitches. Unsolicited materials or sample copies dropped off at Magers & Quinn are dealt with at our discretion and we cannot facilitate the return of these materials.
- We prefer in-store or in-person events to virtual events. However, we may agree to virtual events on a case by case basis. Proposals with particular reasons to be hosted virtually are welcome! (Examples include: author based internationally but with a strong Minnesota following, largely online audience, unique digital format, etc.)
- Our website calendar lists events once the information is finalized and public. Though you may not yet see events in an upcoming month, we are likely in the process of scheduling. Additionally, there may be reasons why we are keeping a particular date clear of events. Please do not assume a date is available for an event because there is nothing listed on the calendar.
- If the book is not available through standard distribution, we may work directly with the author to sell books on a consignment basis under a standard consignment agreement. Author must be able to provide books and agree to our established terms. Individual terms are not available.
