Angus Sinclair, a sadistic rapist and serial killer from Scotland, is the subject of this horrifying but compelling book . The author's books are incredibly absorbing to read because of his writing style. Like all good true crime books, the research is exhaustive but, to me, an added edge is provided by the careful analysis of the criminal's psychopathy. By meticulously elucidating the details of the mental machinations of his subjects, the author is able to convey at least some understanding of what drove an individual like Angus Sinclair to commit the horrific acts for which he is known. This approach also allows the book to read a bit more like a novel than a documentary style succinct summarization of facts. Truth is stranger (and in this case, scarier) than fiction and this story proves it.
