If you have read any number of my historical western fiction novels, you will be familiar with my character, Texas Ranger Bill Vents. Where did he and his old friend Rowdy Bats end up after their long careers in the Rangers? The date is 1888, and the place is Mayweather on the Oregon border in Northern California. Along with his old friend Harold Stampede, Mayor Bates has called together several old colleagues, including the legendary storyteller himself, Ranger Vents. As they all arrive by train from distant places across the American Continent, the tension builds. The famous Boston scribbler has high expectations for the tales and, in some cases, even lies that will be related by such men as Rancor Maleficent, and his sidekick, Roberto Rodriguez - the infamous bounty hunters. Of course, the mayor and Stampede's best friend, One-Eyed Marshal Jack Black, will also attend. Those who were fortunate enough to be invited to the gathering are anxious to hear who tells the best campfire story of them all - and how they each survived over these decades of violence. This is their story in the aftermath of the taming of the Old West.
