I have been toying with the idea of writing children's books for the past few years but something has always managed to derail me from this path. But here I am writing. I am finally taking the advice I give my students: The hardest part of doing anything is starting; just do it! Motivation from a Christian standpoint: Approximately 70-80% of people who live in the United States identify as Christian. Assuming my students are a representative sample, it would seem that most have not read the Bible; they just rely on a pastor or priest to facilitate their personal relationship with God. Others read the Bible over and over again and have trouble distilling and applying important principles to their lives. Motivation from a Psychological standpoint. There are too many important ideas that have been discovered by psychological researchers over the years that have only reached a few people. Many of these ideas are locked away in dusty old journals; inaccessible due to shear number and complexity (i.e., jargon and complex statistical analyses). Those ideas that are articulated in textbooks are crammed by college as well as some high school students and are then forgotten; definitely not applied! This is bad; it is a waste. These ideas are powerful! They have the power not only to transform people but to change communities and ultimately the world. I plan to address this problem by writing a line of Children's books to creatively and succinctly convey important psychological and Christian concepts; this is how I have been Called to live out the Great Commission. This is the first book.
