A universe of fetishes, fur, leather, sensual folds and tight straitjackets... That is what Belgian fashion designers A.F.Vandevorst stand for. This publication celebrates their twentieth anniversary. An Vandevorst and Filip Arickx met in 1987, on their first day of school at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. Ten years later, they set up their company Blixa and presented their first collection as A.F.Vandevorst in Paris. They have collaborated with such people as the flamboyant and world-famous hat designer Stephen Jones and have grown to become one of Belgium's most edgy cult designers, closely connected to the Antwerp Six (Dries Van Noten, Ann Demeulemeester, Walter Van Beirendonck ). With fashion shows and flagship stores in Paris, New York and London, they are much respected internationally and hugely admired in Japan. A.F.Vandevorst's aesthetics are the result of their strong love for the visual arts, music and literature and of their great interest in cultural archetypes. This book focuses on their diverse inspirations, including Joseph Beuys, the military and the medical scene, and is a collaboration with artists to whom An and Filip feel strongly connected. Among them is Blixa Bargeld (Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds/Einst rzende Neubauten), who was the source of their first company's name and has been a big inspiration ever since. Following an intuitive order, this book gives an intimate, very exciting and stimulating insight into the fascinating world of A.F.Vandevorst. Be inspired by twenty years of limitless passion for fashion.

Aftershock: Confronting Trauma in a Violent World
A Guide for Activists and Their Allies
Paperback      ISBN: 1590561031

Aftershock is about the real war against terror--the struggle for a world in which nobody lives in fear of atrocities perpetrated by human beings. Every day, people who push against violence and injustice or pull for peace and freedom must face their own fears. Many activists also must struggle with aftershock, the physical and emotional reverberations of frightening, horrifying, or otherwise traumatizing experiences endured in the course of their activism. This book is for aftershocked activists and their allies, as well as for people and organizations that practice high-risk activism. It includes practical tips for individuals, organizations, and communities, as well as information about how traumatic events affect our bodies and abilities. Aftershock explores the culture of trauma that people have created through our violent exploitation of the Earth, other animals, and one another. As long as we continue to perpetrate such violations, we will never fully heal our own traumatic injuries. This book, therefore, is for survivors of all kinds of trauma, for therapists who treat trauma, and for anyone who hopes to reduce the amount of terror in the world.

America: Our Next Chapter
Tough Questions, Straight Answers
Paperback      ISBN: 006143695x

Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel has long been admired for his honesty, integrity, and commonsense approach to the challenges of our times. The Los Angeles Times has praised his bold positions on foreign policy and national security and wondered, What's not to like? In America: Our Next Chapter, Nebraska-born Hagel offers a hard-hitting examination of the state of our nation and provides substantial, meaningful proposals that can guide America back onto the right path.

Basing his suggestions on thorough research and careful thought, as well as on personal insight from his years as a political insider, successful businessman, and decorated war hero, he discusses domestic issues such as control of U.S. debt and confronts foreign policy problems, including China's growing economy and Iran's aggressive political, ideological, and nuclear stances. Always true to the beliefs instilled in him during his childhood on the prairie, he speaks passionately about service--to one's country and to one's fellow citizens--as the path toward a renewed America.

A staunch Republican yet a hero to liberals (Time), Secretary Hagel asks the tough questions and delivers straight answers to America's most pressing problems. America: Our Next Chapter is a serious, honest, and ultimately optimistic look at our nation's future, from an American original.
