First Edition. First edition, first state. Small 4to, 239 pgs. Full bound green cloth with textured pictorial paper label (depicting three faces in a circle) on front board, green stamped title with green and red stamped fish on spine. 12 color plates, colored endpapers. Publisher's ads end with "John Dough and the Cherub." Last two lines of pg 95 transposed. Some scuffing and rubbing to paper label, one scratch about 4" long, cloth beginning to crack at front hinge, worn at spine ends and cornertips, cloth on rear board is dust soiled. Some finger smudges and soil marks on occasional page margins, previous owner's name in pencil on ownership leaf.
