Publisher's Comments (cont.)
What had been planned as a local workshop in New Zealand evolved quickly into an international symposium held in London, May 2008. In turn, this book evolved from presentations at that gathering--expanded in scope and depth. The emphasis is on issues rather than on case studies or particular taxa. Discussion encompasses such topics as what animal translocations are and why they are done; the selection of suitable habitats for reintroduction; the theory and practice of catching, holding, moving, and releasing animals; empirical considerations of parasites and health; methods of disease risk analysis; and the management of genetic issues. The four editors are affiliated as follows: John G. Ewen (Zoological Society of London, UK); Doug P. Armstrong and Kevin A. Parker (Massey U., New Zealand); and Philip J. Seddon (U. of Otago, New Zealand). Annotation ©2012 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
