Publisher's Comments (cont.)
This collection of 450 images is published as record of an exhibition that showed during 1998 at the Centro Cultural de Belèm, Lisbon. It is intended, ostensibly, not merely to display the works by some of the world's best known photographers, which it does, but to illustrate the diversity of water forms, the economics associated with water, and the effects of pollution. The main impact, however, is aesthetic; the volume is a visual feast, and useful as well for study of the history of photography and its aesthetics. Arrangement is by such themes as states of water, oceans and waves, Antarctica, swimming, washing, sailing and rowing, aquatic cities, dangerous water, human water, and abstract water. Includes photographer biographies, but no index or bibliography. Distributed in the US by Abbeville. Annotation c. by Book News, Inc., Portland, Or.
