Directions to the Uptown store

From the southern suburbs (35W traveling north): Take 35W north traveling toward downtown Minneapolis. Exit at 31st Street/Lake Street. Turn left (west) onto 31st Street (at the first stoplight). Continue on 31st Street for approximately 1.5 miles to Hennepin Ave. Turn right (north) onto Hennepin Avenue. The store will be almost immediately on your left.

From the northern suburbs (35W traveling south): Take 35W past signs for the University of Minnesota. Follow signs for Interstate 94 West. Take 94 west about .5 mile, staying to the right. Take the Hennepin/Lyndale exit (before the Lowry tunnel). At the exit, Hennepin and Lyndale Avenues split. Stay to the left for Hennepin Avenue. Go south on Hennepin Avenue to 3038 Hennepin Avenue.

From St. Paul (94 traveling west): Go west on 94 to Minneapolis. Take the Hennepin/Lyndale exit (before the Lowry tunnel). At the exit, Hennepin and Lyndale Avenues split. Stay to the left for Hennepin Avenue. Go south on Hennepin Avenue to 3038 Hennepin Avenue.

From the north and northwest suburbs (94 traveling east): Take 94 to the Hennepin/Lyndale exit (before the Lowry tunnel). Follow signs for Hennpin Avenue South. After crossing Franklin Avenue, continue on Hennepin Avenue for approximately 8 blocks to 3038 Hennepin Avenue.

From the west (394 traveling east):
Take 394 east toward downtown Minneapolis. Exit at Hennepin/Dunwoody. Stay in the right lane. Turn right (south) onto Hennepin Avenue (the second stoplight after the exit). After crossing Franklin Avenue, continue on Hennepin Avenue for approximately 8 blocks to 3038 Hennepin Avenue.

If any unauthorized charges are made to your credit card as a result of shopping with Magers and Quinn online, you will pay nothing. If such charges do occur, please contact your credit card company first and follow their reporting procedures. By federal law, your bank or credit institution cannot charge you more than $50 for fraudulent charges. If you are held liable for any amount, Magers and Quinn will reimburse you up to $50 (provided that the charges occured at no fault of your own while your account information was held by our secure server).

Magers and Quinn Booksellers will not sell of give your e-mail address or personal address to a third party, except as necessary to complete the services you have requested, such as to shipping carriers. If you supply us with your e-mail address, you can choose to receive news and information from us.

Description of Conditions
New: A book in its original condition, as released by the publisher.
Near New: A book in almost new condition, but not quite perfect. It may have edgemarks or minor shelf wear.
Used - Standard or Better: A book which has been read and shows some use. It could show some marks or shelfware. Jacket could show wear or minor tears. A good reading copy.
Used - Less Than Standard: A book which shows more wear than an average used book. May have minor physical damage, underlining, highlighting, or library markings. We only allow this condition in a title that is otherwise difficult to find.
Used - Jacket Less Than Standard: A book in good, used condition, however the jacket is well worn or missing.

We make a great effort to accurately describe our books. If you'd like to learn more about the condition of a particular title, feel free to contact us. If after receiving a book from us, you feel the book is not as described, you may return it for a refund.

Description of Conditions for Collectible Books
Conditions appear in two parts separated by a slash, referring to the condition of the book and the condition of the dust jacket. Condition codes on collectible and rare books are defined broadly. The older a book, the more subjective the condition code. All defects are noted in the description.

AS or As New: A book in original condition, as it was released from the publisher. Text is clean; binding is tight; the book is in unread condition.
F or Fine: A book in slightly less crisp condition then As New, but with little to no defects. Text is clean, and the binding is tight, but the book may have some minor shelfwear. Any defects are noted in the description.
NF or Near Fine: A book showing some signs of having been read, but which is approaching Fine condition. The book is clean with a solid binding. Any defects are noted in the description.
VG or Very Good: A book showing general wear, as expected with its age. It may have shelfwear or minor defects. Any defects are noted in the description.
G or Good: A book showing significant wear. It may have water damage, a shaken or cracked binding, or minor defects. Any defects are noted in the description.
P or Poor: A very worn copy, with contents possibly loose, but complete unless otherwise noted.

Searching
From almost any page on your site, you can search for a book. Use the “Search for a Book” box to do a simple search using any one of the four input fields: title, author, keyword, or ISBN. In any of these fields, the more information you provide the more specific your search results will be. You can make your search even more specific by entering information into two or more fields.

Helpful Hints
• Words entered are not case-sensitive.
• Correct spelling is necessary to obtain successful results.
• Words must be complete and not partial, but can be in any order.

Title: Entering part of the title may get your result, but the more complete your input, the greater the chances of success. Words such as "a", "an", and "the" may be omitted.

Author: The author's name may be entered last name first, first name second, or vice versa (e.g. "Whitman, Walt" or "Walt Whitman"). You don't need to provide the author's first name, but doing so will help narrow your search, especially if the author has a common last name. Note: if you are searching for a biography of a particular author, try entering his or her name in the keyword field.

ISBN: If you know of the precise the edition of the book you are searching for, we recommend searching the ISBN field. An ISBN (International Standard Book Number) is a ten digit number assigned to all books published since 1970. In addition to appearing on the copyright page (usually the reverse side of the title page), this number is commonly printed on the back of the dust jacket, near the barcode.

Keyword: Can't remember the exact title or off their for a particular book? Try searching by keyword. A keyword can be virtually any word or combination of words associated with the subject you're interested in: quilting, folk music, golf, Picasso, etc. The more specific you are, the better your chances of finding just what you're looking for.

Browsing Departments
You may also want to use the "Browse Departments" menu on our home page. This will allow you to virtually walk through the aisles of our bookstore. You can start by selecting a broader department and narrow your search along the way. For example, scrolling down and selecting "Animals" will allow you to view all our categories in this department: Dogs, Birds, Insects, you name it.

In some cases there may even be subcategories, for example;
   Department: Travel
   Category: Travel guides
   Subcategories: Australia, Eastern Europe, United States, Midwest, etc.

"Advanced Search" will provide additional fields for a more refined search.

Browse by Subject
If you wish to find a range of books by subject, follow the department and category to your choice.  See a complete list by clicking on "Full Category List" located under the Browse Departments menu.
You can also see a list of all categories within all departments by clicking on the "Full Category List" tab under the department pulldown menu or by clicking here.

If our department or category options don't quite fit the topic you are looking for, try typing the name of your subject into the key word field in the "Search" box or the subject field on the advance search page.This may give you a larger list that includes books that mention the subject word in the title or in the publisher’s comments.

Shopping Cart
Your online shopping cart behaves just like a shopping cart in a physical store. You can add or remove items from it at any time prior to completing a sale. You can add items to your card by clicking the "Add to Cart" button next to the title you wish to select. Adding an item to your cart will take you to your "Cart Contents" page, where you can make adjustments to the quantity of each item, remove items, and calculate the shipping costs you would incur if you complete the purchase.

To remove an item from your cart, simply check the box next to be appropriate title and click the "Update Cart" button at the bottom of your cart contents list. To change the quantity of each title you wish to order, enter a new number in the quantity field and click "Update Cart."

Want List
If we are currently out of stock on a particular title or edition, you can choose to receive and e-mail notification when we get inventory for that item. When a book is out of stock, you will see a notify me button in the position where you would normally see the "Add to Cart" button. If you have already created an account with us, clicking the "Notify Me" button will add that item to your notification list, which can be accessed at any time from your account settings page. To remove an item from the list, simply click the box next to the title which you wish to remove and click the "Update" button at the bottom of the list.

Gift Certificates
At this time certificates purchased online may only be redeemed online. Certificates purchased in store may only be redeemed in store.

If you wish to send an online gift certificate, an email will be sent to the address you specify containing the dollar amount, the sender's name, an optional personalized message, and instructions for redeeming the gift certificate. No physical gift certificate will be sent. As the sender you will also receive a receipt via email after the transaction is completed. Please keep this receipt in the event that the online certificate cannot be delivered (because of an invalid e-mail address, spam filter, etc.)

If you would like to pay for a gift certificate by check or money order, please print a copy of the thankyou/confirmation page, which contains all the information we need to complete the process. If you are unable to print the thankyou/confirmation page directly from the website, please include all the information shown on the page on a typed or clearly written note. Mail the note with a check or money order in the amount of the invoice to: Magers and Quinn Books, 3038 Hennepin Ave S, Minneapolis, MN 55408. When we receive payment, the gift certificate will be created and mailed. (Note: Because we must wait for your check to arrive before sending the gift certificate, please allow extra time for this process to be completed.)

Your Account

Create an Account
You may add to your shopping cart at any time, but to complete a purchase through our webstore, you will need to create an account. If purchasing from us for the first time, you will be asked to set up your account by clicking the "My Account" tab at the top of any page and following the instructions. If you try to checkout without already having an account, you will automatically be taken to the account setup page.

Your user name must be a valid e-mail address, as this will be our primary means of contacting you if any problems arise. We will not share your e-mail address or personal information with any third party. (See our privacy policy.)

The password you choose must be at least 5 characters long and may contain only letters and numerals.

Password/User ID
Your password can be any combination of at least 5 letters and/or numerals. For greater security you should avoid using words that may be found in a dictionary. If, after creating an account, you forget your password click the link below the password field on the login page and enter your email address. An email containing a new password will be sent to the email account you entered.

Your user ID will be the email address you provide when creating an account. You will be prompted to enter your email address every time you log in to our site.

View Order Status
Once you have logged into your account, you may view the status of your previous orders from the main account management page. For a short time after you complete a purchase, your order will be listed as pending while we locate the books and prepare them for shipment. Once all the books have been located and shipped, the status of your order will change to "Completed."

All your previous orders will be listed by date of purchase and will show the total amount of the purchase. To see more details about each order, click the "View" button.

Change and Update Your Information
The information you enter when you create an account will be kept as the default information for any future purchases. You may change this information at any time by logging into your account and following the link to the item you wish to modify. Any changes you make will be set as the new default information for future use. During the checkout process, you may also edit any of the fields which are already filled in from your default account information.

Ordering and Checkout

Selecting a Book to Order
Clicking on "Add to Cart " will take you to your shopping cart page. Adding items to your shopping cart is not a commitment to purchase. Items in your cart can be removed at any time by clicking the checkbox next to the items you want to remove and clicking the "Update Cart" button.

Keep in mind that adding items to your cart does not reserve books. Items in your cart are still available for sale to other people, so if there's just one copy of a book, another customer may purchase it first. Your shopping cart will remain active for your entire shopping session.

Credit Cards: Magersandquinn.com accepts VISA, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover. The billing address you provide must be the same as the address to which your credit card statements are mailed.

Checks and Money Orders: We can accept checks and money orders for domestic orders only and in US dollars only. When you submit your order, you will be asked to send your check. Our confirmation e-mail will also remind you to send your check. Your order will be held for ten days awaiting payment.

Redeem Gift Certificates
To use a gift certificate you have received, add the items you wish to purchase to your cart and proceeed to checkout. In step 2 of the checkout, in the section for your payment information, enter the code from your certificate under "Gift Certificate" and click "redeem". The page will refresh and you will see a message indicating that the gift certificate was redeemed and its value. You may change the amount of credit you apply to the current transaction by scrolling down to the "Gift Certificate" section of the page and following the instructions there.

If you have received a certificate by email, you may redeem the gift certificate by clicking on the link provided in the email. If you do not already have an account with Magers and Quinn, you will be asked to create one, and the the amount of the gift certificate will be credited to your new account.

If the amount on the certificate is less than the total purchase, you will be prompted to enter an additional form of payment. Any unused credit remaining on your gift certificate will be kept on file with us for use at any time.

Returns and Refunds
We guarantee that every book offered on magersandquinn.com is a good reading copy. If you are not satisfied with the condition of your book, you may return it in its original condition within two weeks of receipt and we will credit your account for the full amount of the title. (Please note: we will refund shipping costs only as a result of our error.)

You should expect to receive confirmation of your refund within one week of our receiving the returned item. You should receive a refund one to two weeks after that. Refunds will be issued in the same form of payment used for the original purchase. Money order refunds will be issued by check.

Picking Up Orders
If you see a book in our webstore that you would like to pick up in person, just give us a call so we can make sure it's available and put it on hold for you. Books can be held for up to one week, after which they will be returned to the shelves and are subject to prior sale.

Canceling Orders
Log in to your account to see pending orders and cancel an order. Orders that have already shipped cannot be cancelled.

Selling Your Books
We buy quality new, used, and out of stock books which are still in demand. We also buy scarce and collectible editions and academic and scholarly books. Condition is important. Paperbacks should be in near-new condition.

One of our experienced buyers will examine each of your books and make a decision whether or not to buy it, based on its content, condition, salability, and our current inventory status.

Please note: you are responsible for disposing of the books we do not wish to purchase. We do not accept donations.

It's difficult to say what titles we may or may not be interested in at any given time. And it is virtually impossible to make an appraisal over the phone. It is necessary to see all the relevant factors involved in determining the salability and value of a book.

In most cases, we are unable to purchase the following types of books:
- Most encyclopedias (unless earlier than 1930)
- Series romance novels
- Reader's Digest Condensed Books
- Magazines (unless earlier than 1945)

For the most prompt service, the best times to bring in your books are Monday to Saturday from 10am to 5pm. If you bring books during the evening hours, it may be necessary to leave them overnight.

Large collections: if you live in the vicinity of the Twin Cities and are looking to sell a substantial collection of quality books, we may be willing to send a book buyer to your home. If you'd like to arrange a visit, please contact one of our buyers by phone. He or she will ask you to provide information about what you have.
